Let's imagine what it would be like.......
on: July 26, 2004, 11:21:40 PM
Let's imagine what it would be like if we all lived together in the same house (like a frat house).  Who would be doing what?  Let me start, I know that I would be in the kitchen, making chili for all, and I would be arguing about the Nazi's with Bernhard.  LOL  So imagine what it would be like.  Just imagine what it would be like.  Who would be doing what?  I'm sure that most of us have developed a "mental picture" of the others, so let's do a "spin-off" of sorts............

PS--keep it clean.  We each have our separate bedroom.

hahaha do we all have our own pianos cos i think there'd be a lot of arguing over practice times otherwise! god it'd be a noise fest- poor neighbours having to endure so many pianos all playing for all hours of the day!

ok what am i doing- creating everyone's pianos into artworks to suite their personalities- you can request whatever you like to have painted/sculpted onto it! and then someone can compose a work for however many pianos we have and we'll all play and it'll be like a giant performance artwork and we'll get put into all these art books for revolutionising piano playing and performance art!!

oh and janice of course would know everyone was as soon as they walked in the door (i'm still rather freaked about the whole photo thing!)

First, we need to evict Kulahola from the house! :);)

I think Tash would be walking around and socializing with everybody, because I envision her as being cute & perky, sort of a social butterfly!!(Relax Tash, I immediately figured out who you were in the pic, because you look EXACTLY like a Tash that I know.  She's even the same age as you) Kulahola would be trying to pick fights with everybody!!  Bernhard wears an argyle vest and smokes a pipe, and walks around in deep thought!!

Any thoughts on any others?

The way I picture Bernhard (in relation to the rest of the people in the house) is kind of like this:  he is like Xavier to the X-men.  In other words, old, crusty, and in a wheelchair.  ;)

Also, if comme_le_vent were in the house, he'd probably end up inadventently burning it down.

I'd be the one trying to subtly ask people for advice ;D and playing simple pieces annoyingly or difficult pieces with disgraceful technique. I also have a tendency to skip around places and skip (with my fingers) around the keyboard. My role in the house would be: Pokey Inconvenience.

I disagree that Kulahola should be evicted. Every house needs a chronic nay-sayer and controversy-creater. Eviction is much too civil, anyhow.

It'd be fun!

His practice room would need to be ultra-soundproofed and we'd all need locks on our rooms. XP

Shagdac and I would hang out together, cuz we are fairly close in age.  We would be in the kitchen (I would be making chili for all!), where we would gossip and giggle about everyone else! LOL  So beware!!!

What a fun idea, living with others who share my passion for classical music!  :)  I like Tash's idea of a work for a LARGE piano ensemble-- a piano orchestra, if you will.  And I hope there would be plenty of other musicians too (other than pianists) so that we could have lots of chamber and vocal music.  Where would this place be located?

I would be the guy composing and staying in my room. I would also be the one that doesn't shut up about Ravel. I'd invite lots of people who don't play piano, but another instrument to my home. I would also talk a lot with donjuan about Liszt. :)

What would it be like? Bernhard would sit on a big golden throne and we'd all fan him with big leaves and peel grapes for him. He'd bonk us on the head with a great big staff a lot.

Everyone would get into flaming rows over their favorite pianists/pianos etc.

We'd try to discuss philosophy and fail miserably.

Our neighbors would hate us.

It'd be chili or starve.

Kulahola would be the guy inside the walls of the house who bangs on the pipes and keeps us up at night.

We'd own a lot of dogs who howl along to the music.

...I can't think of anything else.

No, Bernhard is really an impetuous 7-year-old who pulls the piano bench out from under you when you make a mistake (and he does it sometimes when you're playing well, just for fun).

I'd be somewhat reclusive, not out of spite for anybody, but just because I enjoy my own company. I'd practice a whole lot every day, and I'd bring in a ping-pong table so I could show off my ninja-like skillz.  :P

I'd also be the one sitting on the porch, reading a lot of the time.

Even though I am a social butterfly, I prefer solitude.  I live in solitude, but I have moments where I am very outgoing, but I want to do it on my own terms.Hey,  maybe we should have a separate room just for "deep thinking".  No talking allowed!  If we are all going to be living together, I bet that it will be noisy, so it would be a welcomed retreat to have a room like that--a "deep thinking" room!

I'd be waiting till everyone fell asleep, then secretly replace their scores with that of Gottschalk! Running to Bernhard with questions every 5 seconds, and CLEANING!!! I'd be the neat-freak who made everyone's bed, did the dishes and went around picking lint off the floor, and made them take their shoes off at the door! I'd be kicked out after the 1st night!!!!

Good!!  We all will be too busy to make our beds anyway.  (I make mine at midnight, just before getting in it! lol)  We need to have other chores assigned.  Like cooking--unless you want to live off of my chili.  Anyone here a good cook?  Who will mow the lawn? Etc etc etc

i'm also thinking our rooms are sound proof since many of us like solitude. maybe we could have a few meditation rooms and ponder the meaning of life...

OMG i just noticed the 4 stars under my name! haha yay i'm a senior member now! i feel so old...'senior'...

oh and i think clare should get her own little mini house in the garden and occasionally pop inside for a comment or two

cooking...i suck at cooking actually no i can do stir-fry and pasta provided i have someone to help me. do you like hacked up food cos i'm quite good and cutting up food really badly i have a great reputation for it. could you imagine if someone cut their finger?! everyone'd be having a heart attack going OMG you can't play the piano OH NO
my sis is good at cooking provided you don't mind it all being completely fat-free!

oh can i do the interior design of each room?! i'll paint them and everything and they can have borders aroundthe tops of the walls of floating music playing the piece of your choice!

Ok, Tash you are our interior decorator.  Shagdac will be the fanatical cleaner.  We need someone to mow the law and shovel the snow.  I also think we should have a garden.  Fresh veggies are wonderful!  We need someone to wash the cars.  Do we each have our own car? or is it really necessary? since most of us don't have a social life, we could just pool our money together and buy ONE car for us all.  Or how about a van?  Then when there is a concert (or Maksim--lol) in town we can all pile in the van and go to the concert.  Oh, I want to do this for real!!

i'd be out with thalbergmad, bicycling.  he'd probably ok with it for a couple miles and then take off and do his normal 60.  so, i'd turn around, dejected and suddenly cheer up when i see siberian husky pass by on his motorcycle with his dog in doggles.  then, torp would pass on his motorcyle.

feeling energized, i would go to the fridge.  no food.  so many people.  then, i would go out in the garden with claire and start planting lots of veggies and strawberries.  people would depend on us for food.  we would grow herbs and flowers, too.  so the house would look nice after all the cleaning shagdoc did.  we would scatter rose petals near the pianos.

in the evening, when the house becomes entirely noisy, claire and i would go to a corner of the the house and exchange pedicures (annoying everyone by the clipping sounds).  we would check people's fingernails for correct lengths.  have a drink, talk about music, gardening, and children, and i'd cell phone my hubby and say "just a few more days without the kids."  then, when i couldn't stand not being around my kids anymore, i'd cycle from germany to england and take a flight home to pennsylvania.

this was as exciting as the piano camp in siberia.

do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

i don't want to sing either, can i play the piano?  i've actually done a lot of accompanying.  (wonders what a choir of pianists will sound like?)

after the choir practice - lets check out peoples ears (testing to see how good they can hear)  we could perform a sort of test (like vision test) where we play a really really really soft note and see who can hear it.  (may need a digital keyboard - with volume control).  then, of the people who hear very well, we'll ask if they are music teachers or not.  (pianonut wants to prove her indisputable point)

what if... what if we stuff everyone's ears with cotton and then play gottschalk and ragtime as loud as we want.

The house would have to comprise at least two wings, or wards if you wish to be cynical - the musical ward and the quiet ward. The former would contain insulated playing rooms with a wide variety of pianos and recording equipment, and listening rooms, sufficient in number to accommodate our musical desires without our having to squabble too much over timetables.  The decor would be tasteful, with large paintings and photographs of callipygous nudes and fruit. The latter ward would contain separated private living quarters and communal living quarters. These would be sufficiently separated to enable choice between company and privacy. Cooking and cleaning would have to be done on an individual basis - too much argument otherwise.

The grounds would be large, though not excessively so, with access to river or beach, and at least big enough to permit solitary meditation.

As I neither teach nor perform, and income from my eccentric compositions and recordings is likely to be very low, I therefore volunteer to mow all lawns with a handmower, wash dishes in the communal kitchen (but not the private kitchens) and clean communal dunnies (but not private dunnies). I shall also do the rough work in the garden and be responsible for special errands to the neighbouring village to fetch the regular Baileys, Bombay Sapphire and cigars for Pianonut, Bernhard and Janice respectively. However, I do not wish to drive at all and want no more to do with computers.

I see my role as resembling that of Gaffer Jarge in the Rupert books. I can also accost unwelcome strangers with indecent proposals and lewd gestures, which will very quickly discourage any visitors likely to interrupt the others' practice.

ted...do you really want to mow the lawn with a hand mower?  you sound very perfectionistic.  moreso than my neighbor kittycorner.  he's got a perfect yard.  i mean perfect.  of course, he took out all the old grass.  put in lots of fertile topsoil.  replanted fresh green sod. planted all kinds of flowers.  and, today, i see an arbor over there.

your wife must appreciate all the hard work you do.  why don't we just ask if we can bring our spouses along to the castle - and then go for the private quarters.

*now why didn't my husband bring me to france on his last business trip.  should i try to get even now and leave him at home with the kids?  hmmm.  no. must make him feel guilty.  will let him sing for everyone - since he will be the only known singer and can drown out bad noises.  he has often sung the national anthem, and last did it for a ballgame in california (jethawks in lancatster) and most recently with everyone during a philadelphia orchestra rendition of america (thankfully they didn't do all the verses, but he knows all of the star spangled verses).
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

Yes, I love mowing lawns with handmowers - very therapeutic - no noise, no smell, no danger, mild exercise, cheap, not much to go wrong. No, my wife does not appreciate it, but if I am negligent there is discipline.

No, not special, desired visitors - only irritating bastions of orthodoxy - we don't want critics and professors eternally on the doorstep telling us how to play - do we ?

Since Ted mentioned that there will be a recording studio I can safely say that I would be splitting my activity evenly between the recording studio, trips on the motorcycle, and stealing....er....borrowing CDs from Siberian Husky's collection in an attempt to overcome the deliterious effects of my white, middle-class, suburbanite upbringing that has led to a general illiteracy regarding any music outside of the Progressive Rock genre.

Nudes with nice ***es, or using more politically correct terminology:

callipygian, callipygous
a. having well-shaped buttocks.

Its origin is in Greek kallipugos, used to describe a famous statue of Aphrodite; that comes from kallos, beauty (as in calligraphy, or callisthenics, or the lily called hemerocallis) plus puge, buttocks.

We each have our separate bedroom.

give me a piano in my own room and everyone else can do whateer they want to.

Well considering how many people are on piano forum - we're talking like a community! We'd have to have policing and everything! We could have learning centres - where we would have the "Bernhard lecture series" and Bob would be the Prime Minister.

I would like to have my own piano, plus i wouldn't mind helping out with cleaning and cooking and my speciality - ironing!

It would be great for recitals - we'd have millions of them, also we could probably between us learn all the music written for piano duet and 2 pianos ever written and we could also have internal competitions! However this may cause lots of competitiveness and rivalry (hence why we need a police force lol!)

I would practise all day and ask for tips off Skepto.
