Ravel: Rapsodie Espagnole IV. Feria [VIDEO]
on: October 27, 2010, 08:56:06 PM
I played the prima and my duet partner (Jay) played the seconda.

We had an "uh-oh" moment or two, but it overall went well! We will keep working on it (as well as the other three movements), so I hope you can expect a complete performance of it before 2010 is over.

Enjoy! This piece is underrated and makes me feel SO happy inside whenever I listen to it, and even moreso whenever I play it.  ;D

I love this piece.  and I think it works very well as a duet.  It sounds pretty much in the "rough" at this point, but I'm sure it will get there.  The bass is non-existant at times -  maybe due to the recording.  I'm talking about the bass notes - it's top-heavy- The rhythm is infectious, as it should be.  But you could play off more the 2/4 against the 3/4 - you know what I mean? (I don't have the music here)-And maybe less pedal in those very rythmical driving sections.  The middle section is a little too slow, I think.  More languishing.  bring out that mediterranean late afternoon inertia.
But I really think you will discover all these things for yourselves.  Give it time.  It's great work up to now, though!

Thanks! We are learning the other three movements, and will continue to refine the monster of a fourth movement. We will probably rethink some aspects of interpretation (or at least, experiment with different things).
