International Frederic Chopin competitions 1990 and 1995
on: November 06, 2010, 12:11:53 PM
Hi everybody!
No winner was awarded at the International Frederic Chopin Competitions 1990 and 1995.
I'm too young to remember anything about this, and I don't find info on this on the internet.
Do anyone know why there was no winner these two years?

Me neither (but I'm not losing any sleep over that
)
The only thing I know is that the great piano competitions have been traditionally (and they are still), strongly politicized and there are many interests in the stake (prestige of teachers and even complete piano schools and traditions, among others interests including also international politics...). I think that only the jury members really know why they take the decisions they do.

I read about this some time ago.
The reason there was no winner was because no one was "worthy" of the first price. Yundi Li did a brilliant performance in 2000, thus won the event.
I hope this was a sufficient answer mate.

That was the official easy explanation but in my humble opinion, that really explains nothing
