Liebermann Gargoyles Fingering
on: November 06, 2010, 07:28:30 PM
Hello all,

First post here.  I was just wondering if anyone had a good fingering for the big run in the first movement of Liebermann's Gargoyles (the 7 against 6 on the first page).  Right now I'm using 1-2-3-4-1-2-3 (repeated) in the RH and 3-2-1-3-2-1, 3-2-1-3-1-3, 2-1-3-2-1-3, 1-3-2-1-3-2 in the LH.  The RH is fine, but I find the LH incredibly awkward and I can't work it up to tempo.  Is there a fingering anyone knows for the left hand that would work better?  Thanks!

This is just an aside.  I was not familiar at all with this piece so I went to Youtube and listened to a couple of pianists.  Not great music, but very effective and easy to listen to.  I particularly liked the third mvt.  And I particularly liked the performance of a certain Djordjecvic or something like that.  Anyway, just to say you're never too old to learn... ;D
Now, who has that fingering?

You could try 531321 431313 213212 132132 and then a 1-5 on the downbeat of the following bar.

I just got this piece a couple of days ago.  I tried learning the beginning of the 4th movement.  For the first movement, how do you guys count 7 notes against 6 and 5 against 3.  When i practice 4 against 3s, I count to 12 hitting notes with my right hand on the beats :1,4,7,10 and hitting notes with the left hand on beats:1,5,9.  For 5 against 3s, should I count to 15 playing beats 1,6,11 with one hand and beats 1,4,7,10,13 with the other?
