*sob* Im so clueless!
on: November 07, 2010, 12:48:01 AM
Ok, anyway, im new here. So started playing piano about 10 years ago in december. I started when my mom bought me a small toy keyboard that had a few prerecorded songs on it. Well, anyway, I learned all of the songs on they keyboard by ear. My mom was really excited, but we were really strapped on cash and unable to afford a piano. So the only piano I had access to was at my church. When I was about 7 or 8, a lady at our church gave us a piano. It wasn't fantastic or anything, but it was perfect for getting me started. When I started out, I didn't have any piano books, and I didn't even have lessons. So I learned Moonlight Sonata by ear, and it would have been perfect except for the fact that my piano was very out of tune and I was listening to a tape recording. So I learned the whole song in the key of D minor instead of C# minor.  ::) Anyway, my mom has mustered up enough money to get me piano lessons. I didn't know how to read music at all, and at first I hated piano lessons. it was really degrading to go from playing Moonlight Sonata by ear to playing very simple one handed songs. Anyway, would continue my little history but running out of posting room, so ill wait until my next post. Anyway, what I want to say is IM SO CLUESLESS WHEN IT COMES TO FANCY MUSICAL TERMS. I can learn lv. 8 songs but I still feel like I don't know near as much as you people do.

I don't know what you mean by lv. 8 songs.  Clue me in.  You've just started with lessons.  How could you expect to know everything at once?  If you hang around here long enough, you may even pick up a little latin... ;D
Seriously, I don't get your problem.  You sound like you have a great ear and a gift for music.  Now you just have to give it time.  Do you realize how much is out there to discover?!?!?!?  I've been playing now for 57 years and I can't decide what I want to learn next!!!  (It definitely won't be the Alkan quasi-Faust) ;D  It's SOOOOOOO exciting!!!

Whoops, sorry. Learnd moonlight sonata before I even got lessons. That was around 8 years ago. :P So, yeah.  I just get congused when I read some of your posts and words and stuff get said that I don't understand. All together, Ive only gotten about 4 years worth of piano lessons. So, I don't know that much other than just go to a piano and play it like you mean it. Any helpful books, stuff along those lines? I really need help on what musical terms mean and stuff like that.
