Beethoven and Moscheles in Chopin's Fantasie-Impromptu.

A very interesting video made by Paul Barton shows you the strong influence of Beethoven and Moschleles on this very well-know piece by Chopin.

Check it out:

The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

I, too, was surprised that no one has commented, especially given the persistent (and perplexing) popularity of F-I.  I was already aware of the conjectured connection with the Moscheles piece, though, and perhaps many others were as well.

Unfortunately, Mr. Barton didn't spend a lot of time analyzing the similarities (though I suppose it wasn't truly necessary after the point had been made).  Once the video became a tutorial on how to play F-I, I lost interest and stopped watching.
What passes you ain't for you.

I have to say I didn't know about this fact with Moscheles.  I always thought that Chopin didn't care for the piece and didn't want to publish it.  I didn't know that he had sold it to a private party and COULDN'T publish it.  Very interesting. And this Baron guy is very articulate and knows his stuff.  I, too, didn't wait out till the end to hear how to play the piece.  :-[
