playing at night: Acoustic + Silent system or Yamaha Avantgrand digital ??
on: November 27, 2010, 01:20:16 PM
Hello,
I have a dilemma: I am learning piano, and I really need to be able to play silently because ... I have neighbors
.
Since I really want a "real" acoustic keyboard action, think that the real alternative and comparison is between a YAmaha Avantgrand N2/N3 (electronic piano with a REAL grand keyboard action) and an Acoustic piano with a silent / Anytime system.
There are similar prices:
Avantgrand N2 = price of a YAmaha U1 or U3 silent
Avantgrand N3 = Price of a Kawai Grand GE20 + Anytime system ( and just a little cheaper than yamaha CG1 + Silent)
And here is my dilema ! I learn piano, I very ofter play during the evening (so silent mode) and I really want a "real" acoustic piano keyboard action.
So what should I choose : Avantgrand or "real" acoustic with Silent system ?
- I am afraid that the acoustic silent/anytime will have a sound through headphone really less good than a Yamaha Avantgrand that has a really more sophisticated sound generator ?
Help please.....

The Avantgrand is an amazing digital piano.... But in 10 years it will be completely obsolete. Try having a 10-15 year old digital piano repaired and you'll know what I mean! In normal mode, the Avantgrand is very impressive and even imitates the
vibrations
of a piano... but in silent mode with headphones, I think your comparisons will be a wash. If you want long term viability, the Kawai GE20 will last a lifetime, and you could always upgrade the Silent system/tone generator in 10 years when new advancements are developed.
If you don't care about the long term, then the Avantgrand is probably the best bet.
Good Luck!
