Gluck - Dance of the Blessed Spirits
on: July 29, 2004, 12:08:53 AM
Does anyone know where I can find the transcription of Gluck's Dance of the Blessed Spirits played by Kissin in the Gift of Music.  Is this Kissin's own transcription, or is the score available somewhere?

I have found only Schultz's transcription for solo piano.  Heifetz and Kreisler have transcriptions too, but for violin/piano ...

You want the transcription by Giovanni Sgambatti. That is the one Kissin plays.

I've looked in our conservatories' library for Sgambatti's transcription with no luck.  Do you know where I may be able to purchase this score?

Joel, thanks so much for posting the pdf.

I purchased the Carl Fischer score from http://www.sheetmusicplus.com about a month ago. That version was edited by a Joseph Glahm. It's very interesting to compare that score with the one you posted, which I assume is how Sgambati originally notated it.

The Fischer edition uses only two staves and the editor clearly shows what notes each hand should play. Yet when I look at that version, it gives me absolutely no sense of what the piece is about.

Now that I have seen Sgambati's original notation, I have no problems whatsoever understanding his intentions.

The link to IMSLP did not work for me. There is no text there. Does anyone have other ideas?
