It ends in fire 12/1/08
on: December 02, 2010, 06:56:43 AM
A weird occasion, the *post anniversary celebration of an improvisation.*
December 1, 2008 was the date. Ah, for the joy of playing the piano!

I'm enjoying this very much. Your virtuosity is very impressive, but more importantly I enjoy the somewhat more familiar tonal styles that you move in and out of. There were some lisztian passages in there. The first moments of the improvisation made me think "the evil galactic emperor and his army has arrived" of course that can't apply for long because of the diversity of this improvisation, but it was fun while it lasted, lol.

Thanks a lot Derek. I like your description "the evil galactic emperor and his army has arrived." So much of (at least my manner of) improvisation is in contrasts of temperature...long stretches of loud, involved instability spawns a situation suitable for a serene, quiet, lyrical release, and vice versa.
Randomly, I just read this description detailing Clinton Tibbs publicly released improvisation, "Alscribjiani."

...as the nature of some improvisations, it is rather incoherent and rambling.
