harder to teach ascending or descending arpeggio? and why?

Going away from your center is almost always harder than coming back simply due to the mechanics of the thumb crossing under the hand.

That is, ascending is hard in the right hand, and descending is hard in the left hand. Descending is easy in the right hand, and ascending is easy in the left hand.
