on: December 26, 2010, 08:55:01 AM
hi all.
i am trying to find out a bit about a piano i have to move for my motherinlaw. as she doesnt know wheather to keep it or get rid of it.
it is an upright piano. on the inside where the keys are says it was from phelps pianos in london and it is made by bertram and son, but googling both of these i cannot find anything.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

Why is she agonising? If she doesn't use it and doesn't expect anyone else to use it, she might as well get rid of it. Obviously it's impossible to know without actually seeing the instrument (or at the very least hearing a recording of it) but it's probably worth about the cost of taking it away. That's not to say someone, somewhere, won't want it though - could be just the thing for a penniless student or, for instance, a dance rehearsal space in need of some modest piano-shaped object.
Instrumentalists are all wannabe singers. Discuss.

If you have a web album with pictures of the inside showing the layout, condition of the strings, felt on the hammers and dampers, we could tell you a bit more.
