wow moments
on: December 30, 2010, 06:24:06 AM
Hi all:  just wondering if any of you have ever had what I call a wow moment in your playing. To me a wow moment is when you just do something so special it takes your breath away.  you just nail a piece, or improvise , or anything that you just didnt think you could do.  Second part of this is  that sometimes  my idea of a wow moment and let say the audience at a recital arent the same things.  What impresses an audience dont seem to be the same things that impress me.

I be interested to here if others have found that to be so.

Cheers, Becky

I think we've all had moments like those.  It's an essential part of why I am a musician.  I also find that what you say about things impressing you being different from what impresses an audience is true.

One of the most recent examples for me was performing Chopin's Ballade in G Minor at my jury.  The second theme is so simple and so heart-wrenchingly beautiful and I feel that time I had played that section better than I had ever done before.

I think without these moments of sheer fascination at even the simplest sections, music would be a much less rewarding experience for us.
