I had fun sifting through a selection of you tube videos, singling out my favorites.. Some are not the clearest in sight and sound, but still worth mentioning. I was very astounded to have found a World War II era performance of Myra Hess playing Mozart K. 453 with the Royal Air Force Orchestra at the National Gallery in London. Definitely one archived for the history books.

I actually have two clips from you tube.  one is only an audio with a picture from the cover of the album.  The other is an actual video.

The video is of Horowitz playing his Carmen variations.  I cant take my eye off of his pinky.  How the hell did he do that.

The Audio clip is of Martha Agerich , age 7 playing the Beethoven first Piano concerto .

OMG> im  12 and I play the Beethoven or just about and people look at me like I have 2 heads being able to play it . But 7 and playing it with a symphony orchestra , what was she born being able to play a Mozart Sonata at birth.

Anyway  Those are two of my favorites.

Cheers, Becky

Hi Becky, I enjoyed learning about your favorites. Fascinating to have seen Argerich perform at 12.
As for Horowitz's pinky, yes it seems to have a life of its own. Yet he manages to have a stunning technique. Check out seeing Argerich playing Scarlatti Sonata in d minor, K. 141--on you tube.

Horowitz playing Scriabin etude op 8 no 12
Vladimir Ashkenazy playing Chopin etude op 10 no 1 when he was in his 30s or 40s.

And Cziffra playing Grand galop Chromatique and gnomenreigen. His hands just look like spiders running around the keys. I wonder, how large is Cziffra's hands?

no. 1 favorite video? Bugs Bunny playing the Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody No 2

Jarrod Radnich playing his arrangement from Pirates of the Carribean. Okay so it's not 'serious art music' but he's a fantastic pianist, and great fun to watch and listen to.  Theatrics might be a little over the top but at least its in line with the type of music performed.

also i don't have a video but i'd love to have one of these recordings of Kathryn Stott playing Chabries works,

Not that large actually. Van Cliburn, Artur Rubinstein and Richter had larger hands.  Rachmaninov was outstanding when it comes to stretches but he had hypermobile joints  :P

Well then the video must 've made the effect that he has large hands. Probably because of the close up of his playing. His fingers were very agile though.

Indeed, and his technique was even better before he damaged his hands as a P.O.W. He never recovered completely  :P

That might be a little controversial, but I quite like Bernstein's recording of Ravel's Piano Concerto in G.  ::)
