How to get started with playing jazz?
on: January 08, 2011, 10:05:55 PM
Yes, another topic from me, Lol.
But I'm very interested in learning to play jazz. I love listening to it, and I think I've kinda got the idea, but every time I try to improvise off of something it sounds like crap, or at least I think it does. Any suggestions?

Learn your jazz theory and apply it at the piano. Also get used to emphasizing beats 2 and 4 rather than 1 and 3.
The more you do, the better you get at it. There are tons of jazz charts all over the place that you can learn and then improvise within the key.
