I am studying for a dip in classical piano at an arts college, but i am curious what piano should i buy in terms of brands, key touch, make, tone quality and other details. should I get a grand piano? I want the best quality one, and my budget is US$12000

The kind of piano you can afford to buy would probably be the best one for you.....

If you think it's is expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.
