tchaikovsky's first piano concerto...please help !

hi

I've just begun Tchaikowsky's first piano concerto, and I'm wondering whether the first (piano) bass chord is 8va bassa or 8va alta ?

I had the same doubt, but if you want my opinion, it's octave bassa, this would have more sense. You should listen to a recording of it and check this out...

I have also started learning the Tchaikovksy Piano Concerot and it is octave bassa.

correct...it is octava....and what a glorious opening to a concerto, gives me a chill everytime i bang out those cords

In case anyone was confused, it means the LH octave is 8vb (down an octave) and the RH is as written.
