microphone stand
on: January 26, 2011, 02:07:25 AM
Hi fellow players,
Question please.  I have a Yamaha keyboard and a Pearl River piano.  Am around level 3/4 self taught.  Now wanting to sing while I play.  Was looking at amps and microphones.  Saw a Peavy Max 110.  Comments?  Was only $179.  What kind of device do I need to attach a mike to my keyboard or piano so I can sing and keep hands free for playing.  What does it attach to and how long need to be, etc.  Thanks so much.
Frank

Get a floor stand with a boom extension instead. Then you can place it where you need it. Works better in my opinion...
Just curious, which Yamaha do you use?

Jimbo,
Thanks for advice.  I just have an "el cheapo" YPG-235 but I don't play well so it works good for me.  I love the way you can just press a button and make it sound like any instrument you want.  I am always putting it on saxophone.

Make sure to also pick up an appropriate mic clip for your mic.  There are two commonly used thread sizes to screw on the clip, make sure you get the same one that your stand has.
Made a Liszt. Need new Handel's for Soler panel & Alkan foil. Will Faure Stein on the way to pick up Mendels' sohn. Josquin get Wolfgangs Schu with Clara. Gone Chopin, I'll be Bach

Hey Frank,
I know the feeling. One of my keyboards is a PSR that not only emulates a grand piano well, it has a lot of different instrument simulations too. Another keyboard I use is an Alesis Micron for great synth effects. Happy playing....

Quantum,
Thanks for advice on mike holder.  Got it and it screwed in just fine.  Have a great day!

I want to reply to Jimbo320 about a comment he made about microphone stand that I posted.  How do I do it?  When I click on the message it doesn't allow me to go to "reply."  Showing my ignorance here but what is a synthesiser and how is different from a keyboard?  Me being basically a beginner would I have any use for a synth?  Thanks to all.
