on: January 27, 2011, 07:37:49 PM
Hi, im fairly new to this forum and was browsing around the sheet music section. I came across a piece i was learning and it said it was level 8+. What does this mean? Thanks.

As far as I know they are roughly equivalent to ABRSM grades.... Piano Street decided which level should go with which piece, and most of them are pretty accurate, but I find some of them unhelpful :/ they're really only guidelines because the difficulty of a piece is quite an individual thing depending on what your strengths are

Hi
Im new here and I may be wrong, but I think 8+ is very uninformative, very large scope. There are pieces that could be considered grade 9, and some grade 20 like petrushka. But as the other guy said, its kind personal based on your strenghts

Technically most of the grading systems differ... So a Grade 8 ABRSM or Trinity piece is only worth about Grade 6 in the AMEB system. So even then - the levels differ over the systems.
But yeah - you are right. 8+ basically means it's getting towards concert repertoire level and away from intermediate.
It is a pain.
