Tchaikovsky The Seasons
on: January 28, 2011, 09:55:09 PM
Hello.

I am trying to find some a great edition of Tchaikovsky The Seasons. I went to imlsp.org, and the only good edition they have is a Schirmer. I am not really a fan of Schirmer editions, because in the piece January, for example, recordings do not match with  couple  of sections from the Schirmer edition.  So, if anyone has played these pieces, can you recommend me a good edition, or if possible, maybe tell me where I can find these pieces in a reliable edition.

Thank you!

this might work. i can feel you on the schrimer edition, the best thing about schrimer is that the tend to be inexpensive...that being said I was very happy with my Kabalevsky Complete Sonatas edition by them, it helps that its more recent music but it's clear and the page turns are well thought out (which is handy until memory is all fixed up). the mcfarren manual by them is pretty good too.

Hey, thanks a lot for this. This is definitely very helpful. I can already see some mistakes on the Schirmer edition. For example, on the first piece, January, the last two measures of the piece clearly say that both hands play an octave higher than written. On the schirmer edition I found, the octave higher symbol is only on the right hand, not the left. Little changes like these can completely change a piece, so I am glad I found a reliable edition. Thank you.
