Continuous Scales?
on: January 30, 2011, 12:57:58 AM
How do you play all of the scales continuously? I learned all of them and I have heard people play them all without stopping. Thank you

One way that I do this is starting at A and running upward in the A scale when at the next A jumping to the next A# and then running downward the A# scale. At the lower A# jumping to the next B and running upward in the B scale to the next B then jumping to C and running downward to the lower C then jumping to the next C# and running upward the C# scale and so forth covering all majors and sharps....

I've heard of starting in C (any or major key), play up and down four 8ves, then do C D C B a minor..... up and down four 8ves.... then a b a g F Major....
It goes down to the relative minor and down by fifths, around the circle. When you run out of space you just go up after the minor, I think it's something like up five 8ves and down three, whatever equals it out (even numbers I think) so you end up where you want to.

You could also do cadences at the end of each scale to lead to the next key.
