Best collection of Debussy?
on: February 02, 2011, 01:00:34 AM
I haven't had a complete set of recordings of Debussy piano works since my teens, and that one, by Werner Haas, was (to my adolescent mind) quite good, however I've heard some far better individual recordings in the meantime. My question is "What would be your favorite complete Debussy piano collection and why (briefly (optional)).
Many thanks!

I've only heard a few complete sets of Debussy, and my favorites out of the ones I've heard are Paul Crossley and Jean-Efflam Bavouzet. Both are very technically articulate and are relatively innocent from a musical standpoint, which I believe is what you want in a complete set. Both are great from an "encyclopedic" standpoint, in that they give you a great picture of the work without showcasing the performer's ego a gross amount.
