Hello

Fantastic, a forum dedicated to piano improv enthusiasts. Accidental discovery of mine having lurked on a few other, more general, music sites.

I'm not pro, just an enthusiastic amateur who enjoys the odd ramble on the piano.

Last night I produced just that sort of ramble - I've mp3-encoded it and called it Mankind, with section titles hinting at the Oedipus Riddle, attached below. It's raw, rough and ready, with dead cheap recording equipment and once-only off-the-cuff takes.

Looking forward to hearing your work on this forum as I scroll through this list...

Oliver

Hi, welcome to pianostreet and to the improv forum. I listened to all three of these and really enjoyed them. It is an interesting mix of a melodic modern new age style, with some classical, romantic, and I think I heard a bit of baroque influence in there in a couple of spots.  Overall very expressive with a lot of variety, thanks for sharing. Look forward to hearing more!

Thanks Derek. My main influences are, in reverse chron order, Keith Jarratt, Rachmaninoff, Chopin and Bach, although I didn't let Rachmaninoff creep into this one - I'll save that for a day of rage!

Awesome on the keith jarrett influence. He's an inspiration to me as well, though I'm not sure how much of his style I've directly borrowed. I just think its awesome that he improvises for so long and in so many different ways.

(speaking of bach influence) I've been having a big bach mania lately, it has been a long term dream of mine to improvise baroque fugues. I'm slowly getting there...feeling fairly strong in 2 voices, not quite as strong in 3 yet, but I'm sure I'll get there if I try.  I was curious if you've made any recordings of pure baroque improv. We could compare notes  ;D

Oooh... interesting. Have never recorded a dedicated attempt at a Baroque improv, but something I did in 2004 might qualify - "Staccatisto" - will post in separate thread. Kind of Baroque-ish? You tell me...
