Is this piece suitable for me?
on: February 04, 2011, 01:17:22 PM
Hello everybody, this is my first post here in pianostreet, as i've been playing for no longer than 6 months, I expect no harsh or rude comments, as i'm just a beginner for the moment...

well, the problem is that i've been going to a piano teacher, but he's on vacation at the moment, so i can't ask him this;

Among with scales, apreggios and stuff i've learned a few simple pieces for my level, including

-Für Elise ::)
-Minuet in G, from Anna Magdalena's Notebook
-Prelude I, form Bk 1 WTC
-Prelude #7, op 28
-Moonlight Sonata, 1st Mov.
and so on

So, i've been wondering which of chopin's waltzes i could be able to play, and i've come with three options
-Posthumous Waltz in Am
-Waltz op. 69 no 2 in Bm
-op. 34 no 2 in Am

I'll look forward to your answers, if I wasn't very clear, don't doubt to ask

Perhaps it's coincidental, but you've already listed those three waltzes in order of technical difficulty.  :)

If you plan to choose one of them to learn, it should probably be the posthumous one in a minor.
What passes you ain't for you.

Definetly valse in a minor. It's the easiest Chopin waltz but still a demanding piece for your level ( if you are at anna magdalena bach). Enjoy this piece and I hope you will be able to play his polonaise and ballades one day.  ;)
Current repertoire:
Bach Toccata in E minor
Beethoven Sonata op.110
Rachmaninov Corelli Variations
Liszt Paganini Etudes No.2 and 6.
Strauss Burlesque in d minor, Brahms piano concerto No.2.

Hi JMD1921 , I also think the posthomus A minor is the right choice.   Also ignore that noise from the previous poster  .

And to russda_man: stop posting on the student board or im going to report you to the moderator

Cheers to JMD1921, Becky

I think it's time for a bit bigger piece, so I'll vote for 34/2. It's not very easy, but not very difficult either.
