Friedrich Nietzsche the composer

I'm guessing it isn't common knowledge that this enormous figure in philosophy dabbled in composition..? I've just discovered some of his music.  As an appreciative reader I felt, in fact, overwhelmed.

I'm ordering a disc entitled Friedrich Nietzsche Solo Piano, pianist Michael Krücker.

The BBC Muisc Magazine did a feature recently on famous figures who composed as well e.g. Tolstoy, William Herschell, Charlie Chaplin, Patrick Moore and Nietzsche.

There are clips for each, including a different Nietzsche work from the one you linked to and a hilarious G&S-esque song by Patrick Moore.

Thanks for that little article. They're easy on Tolstoy (who's output is only a minute) and very hard on Nietzsche (output is several hours)...That's not very fair.  Nietzsche's work, though, is more like developmental exercise than mature composition.

Nietzsche did end up getting philosophical revenge on Wagner and his idol Arthur Schopenhauer.
