carpel tunnel...at computer, day after practicing hard piece??
on: February 10, 2011, 10:29:05 PM
Has anyone here experienced this? I haven't had carpel tunnel in years, last time I remember I was playing video games when I was a teenager. Most normal piano playing for me, which is mostly non virtuosic, does not cause it either. But attempting this chopin etude, Ithink maybe led to this carpel tunnel today whiel not playing piano. Has anyone else experienced this? I think I may need to abandon efforts to learn virtuosic pieces and just enjoy what technical skill I have as an amateur and learn pieces more appropriate to my level.

Derek, heres a thought. My left wrist was injured from a Schrap metal injury during the first gulf war and sometimes it just hurts like hell. When I play I always make sure im relaxed , warm and not tense or stiff in anyway. Just maybe you should think about your physical condition before you sit down and play demanding pieces.
Dont give up , maybe try another approach.

Hi Derek
My mom had carpel tunnel, she couldnt even drive that it used to cause a lot of pain. Every doctor she went said there was no cure to it, that she needed to take the medicine and not try to hard, cause theres no cure for it and maybe she needed to do a surgery someday to relieve the pain.
She started doing pilattes, and now shes doing Yoga, all the pain is gone and her right wrist, hands, arm and shoulder stopped hurting, she can do whatever she wants like playing piano or driving with no problems.
Best wishes
