I play pretty well from sight, even complex scores.
As an adult the theory of harmony seems a big hurdle.
Of course you'll tell me it helps, but will it help me at my stage, with no real musical school education, apart from private teaching.
Is it worth the effort, and any advise in case it is, how to approach the problem?

Greetings,
Ignace

Hi - You dont have to learn all about music theory or harmony to learn some.  Its like math.  to know that 3+3 = 6 you dont have to learn Calculus.  Music theory is the same way.  There is a lot of simple stuff you can learn really quickly that can help a lot with your sight reading.  Even adults (LOL). Try learning a small amount and see if you like it.  If you do you can learn more. If you dont well you will be smarter than you where and whats wrong with that.

Cheers, Becky

You can never know too much music theory!  Not only will it help you recognize certain patterns more easily when you're sight reading, but it will give you better insight into how to interpret a piece as well!
