David Holden
on: February 21, 2011, 09:44:37 PM
I recently bought a job lot of scores from a dealer, which included "music for piano & strings" by the above named composer.

I am having difficulty finding any info on the chap. He is not listed on any wiki thingy, no mention on American Composers .org and he is not even listed on the Schirmer site, who published the work.

The only info I have is that he was American and born in 1911. My searches keep bringing up a Dave Holden (obviously not the one I am looking for), but no David Holden.

No doubt one of our resident American will know something???

Studied composition with Piston and Copland at Harvard, and might have been the Professor of Theory and Composition at Mt Holyoke College in the 60s. That is all I could find. Try contacting Schirmer or the editor?

Thanks for that.

He seems to be somewhat forgotten.

Is this him? Doesn't seem very likely, though.

That does not look like someone that was born in 1911 and thus approaching if not already 100.

I guess there is a chance he is still alive. To save Alistair a post, there is another American Composer some 3 years older that is still with us.

Yes, indeed there is, but you've no actually "saved" me a post as such (even though this obviously is one!) since I have to confess to my ignorance of David Holden so cannot contribute anything useful about him to this thread.

Best,
