Howdy everyone! I'm a 33 yr old beginner piano student with two whole weeks of practice under my belt.  I love music grew up listening to my step-mom teaching piano lessons in the next room. She could never convince me to take lessons when I lived at home, because I was always more into sports, cars, and girls.  Now I am more mature, less stupid, and married, and want to learn a new language.  That language is piano and music. I really regret not learning when I was younger and had daily access to a Baldwin grand piano!

I decided to surprise my step-mom and give her a unique Christmas gift: a few songs from me on the piano.  I bought a Kawai CN190 digital piano on Craigslist and began teaching myself with some help from "Piano for Dummies" and "Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course.

I have three questions for my first post:

1. Is my Kawai a good piano for beginners? I considered the Casio Celviano AP420, but couldn't afford it at the time.

2. What are everyone's thoughts about taking a piano course at a community college?

3. What is a realistic 6 month proficiency expectation for someone who devotes 5 hours per week of practice? What level of music should I hope to attempt for my Christmas performance?

Thanks everyone and I am glad I found this forum!
