basic harmony - not sure if i did it right...

Is it parallel voice-leading ie all moves down?  or does the A* count as common tone even though it's in different voices?

It would be easier if you put it on the staff.  It's hard to tell if the notes are moving up or down.

for the ii chord...

bass clef: A (bass)   mid C (tenor)    treble: E (alto) A (tenor)

for the V chord...

bass clef: D (bass) A (tenor)      treble: D (alto) F (tenor)

basically all voices are going down
but the A is the same for bass in ii chord and tenor in V chord

I think it is some kind of parallels.  Indirect or hidden.  Something like that.  Parallels between the root and 8ve and between the root and fifth.

The easy/cheat way is to move the top three voice opposite of the bass.  If there's a fifth or 8ve it can't be parallel.  If not, if the root is in the bass, double check what the 8ve and fifth are doing if they're present.

I can't seem to find any parallels of 5th or 8th other than the fact that all notes move in the same direction..   

the question was like this

given soprano line: B down to A down to F# up to G

given bass chord progression: I   ii V I  all in root positions

for the bass i put down (bass clef) G up to A down to D back up to G

the only alternative i can think of is to have an incomplete chord of V so

soprano A down to F
alto E down to D
tenor C up to D
bass A down to D

this is better right?

I think it's something with the motion -- The voices moving down.

And then there's an A-E in the ii and a D-A that appears in the V.  Even though they're in different voices, the voices are moving in the same direction.

The A-A octave... All voices move down.... And then there's a D-D octave.


Maybe I'm being too strict about it something.  It may be a perfect 8ve moving to a perfect fifth (and vice versa) in the same motion.  Maybe that's hidden parallels.  It's been awhile.
