Piano Whisper
on: February 28, 2011, 09:10:33 PM
Oh well I'll post this! Because I have been listening to it for 3 days deciding if it would seem like a joke to post my "improvisation"... because of course I don't know anythng about improvisation at all and not even about piano and music very much.... so well  :-\ but I have to post it cause otherwise I'll just keep listening to it for ever!  :o
Well I played this on Friday, one day after our neighbours called the police and complained about the noise. So I was of course playing with the silent pedal and really quietly... and I was still sad... so this was kinda like talking to my piano really quietly...
I know it's annoying and it's repeating a lot but there are some things that i did kinda like.

Well I guess I better say, listen to this only if you don't get annoyed easily and if you're feeling kinda goofy and childish  :P (Because that's what it is a kid trying to talk to the piano!  :P:)

But that's one of the things that it is all about: talking with your piano! :)
I just thought today, perhaps I'd play something about my crazy neighbours if I was in your situation (though, according to my temperament that one would be rather house crashing I guess ;D )

It's precious and it speaks to me, littletune :)

*Bob has to step out of the room for a moment.*

What is that other sound?  Someone doing the dishes?  Or making eggs?  *Bob is hungry for eggs now.*

I really like the alternating shape you're using to weave this miniature.

00:12: The alternating shape begins to appear
00:38: I like the slow melody weaving around above the left hand portion of your original alternating shape. It's neat that it comes in off of the beat.
00:57: alternating shape comes back, nice form!
1:30: I like the hesitations here, whether intended or not they added poignancy to this spot
1:57: A higher note enters the alternating figure, nice! it feels like a harmonic shift.

A lot of the trick to developing your improvising is recording yourself and listening to when little moments like these come out. Keep on improvising!  :)

This is very touching, and a great improvisation. Improvisation tends to spring out of moments like this - I'm very sorry about your situation. I wonder if something could be worked out with your neighbors as far as a good time to practice? Sometimes it takes some reaching out.

Ah well, I thoroughly enjoyed this piece. There's always water going in your house it seems, and I like the heartening effect that water produces. Water itself is a very deep subject, one vital to life...and the sense of cleaning and purification associated with water. Hang in there.  :)

Thanks so much everyone for listening and for all the great and nice comments!!  :)  :)

Wolfi, if I played something house crashing then it would be accompanied by a loud house crashing banging on the wall and ceiling for sure!  :D
I'm really glad you think that Wolfi!!  :) thanks  :)  8)

Bob thanks for listening!  :)  8) are you always hungry?  :P sorry to disapoint you but that other sound doesn't have anything to do with food... it's just water  :P  :)

Thank you Derek! :) That was so cool that you wrote everything you heard at what times...  8) I wouldn't even notice most of those things! So that was really great! Thanks!  :)  8)

Thank you Furtwaengler!  :) Yes I know I wish we could talk to our neighbours about it and work something out ... I don't know... we'll see I guess... we're even thinking about moving...

Very nice contribution. Listening to the water in the background I had the thought of doing classical concerts at one of our local water attractions; Sea World or the Scripps Aquarium. Your piece would fit right into the program..

Thank you for listening Chopinatic!  :) Well I guess it was a little more serious too, because I wasn't really feeling so very goofy at that time because I was still kinda sad. Thank you very much for your nice comment!!  8)  :)

No, I'm not eating unhealthy... except for today.  That's what gives the craving for grease... lack of grease.  A nice crisp fried egg.  That's what I was thinking of.  Crisp, burned.  And bacon.  And sausages.  And pancakes.  And a heart attack.

Littletune,

I like your improvisation :).  It is tonal interpretation to the percussion of the fish tank, I guess  :P.  Littletune, thanks for posting this, I'll look forward to hearing more from you :).

All this talk about pancakes caused me to find some real organic maple syrup and tomorrow morning it will be pancakes with the real stuff (right out of the tree).

Some posters who shall remain unnamed think about food a lot. I think about it when somebody brings it up. I hope you can get real maple syrup over there. Whenever I have ordered pancakes in Europe they serve them with a molasses syrup. For years I thought I was eating the real thing until someone brought me a bottle from Vermont. Now I can't go back to the "flavored" one. This stuff is NOT for anyone on a restricted sugar diet. It comes out of the tree at 60% sugar. The organic is the best!

Now Littletune, back to the thread. Keep recording your improvisations and listen for the best parts. Then try to expand on each one. What I found is that improvising on paper at least for the main theme is preferable to trying to reconstruct the exact notes of a good fragment. With my digital it's one button to record and another button to transfer to my computer (wire to wire) or sometimes I put my computer next to me wired to the keyboard and then it's a one click start.
