Simple question: How do I play this bit?
on: March 02, 2011, 09:27:04 AM
First time, sorry if this is the wrong subforum or if I have done something wrong.

This is the first part of the song "Loch Lomond" and I don't know how to play the middle C note.
There is a tie, which tells to me that I should hold down the middle C note all the way to the forth measure - but in the third measure, it tells me to play the C note, but I'm supposed to be holding down the C note from the first measure to the forth. How can I play the middle C crotchet in the third measure?

This is the same with the D note in the treble clef: in the third measure there is a semibreve D note but before the semibreve D note ends, it tells me to play a semiquaver D note. What do I do there? Hold down the D note or not?

Are you Anne's sister, by any chance?
The D is more a harmonic device then anything else - just play it once, maybe a little louder and let it go.  Then play the melody as written.

Never mind, you already have an answer (:

Thanks for the response, I am adding this song by "Loch Lomond" in my lessons. I have heard his piano piece and it is awesome.
