Liszt Mephisto Waltz No. 2 (3.7.11, studio)
on: March 07, 2011, 07:51:24 PM
recorded on a Yamaha C2 with a cottony sound. Unedited.

This work is very difficult, it seems to me more of a 4-hand texture.

this piece is one of the less obscure late Liszt works.

Sofronitsky, Richter, Brumberg all recorded this piece.

The four-handed feeling is probably from it being an orchestral transcription, with less thought towards pianistic comfort than, say, MW1.

I first heard this one on Leslie Howard's CD, then wondered why I hadn't heard it before. It is very much worth being heard more. I wonder how hard it would be to collect all the studio recordings of this work?

The middle section could fit right in with the Valses oubliées. In fact, VO3 would fit very well on the same program.
