can the keys be made easier?

What determines how hard it is to push the piano keys down (i.e., play the darn thing!)?  And can it be adjusted?   On my piano at home, the keys are definitely harder to push down than are the keys on the pianos at the music school.  I really enjoy playing the easier keys, things go better, less finger nicks, etc etc. 

So can the keys be adjusted?  If this is a well-known issue and I have missed the discussions,  I applogize.

p.s. The piano tuner has not been real helpful;he thinks I should buy a new piano. From him. Let's not go there.

I'm not an expert in piano mechanics but I have the idea that a piano technician can regulate the weight of the action. Look for a good piano technician (not all tuners are also technicians, I think).

To give you a simple answer to your question, yes. As Pianist was saying not all tuners are technicians. Locate a good tech and you'll be able to get the tension changed...
