Hi chopinatic, I really enjoyed this. I'm a sucker for romantic pieces with really active figuration with inner voices like this, very cool! Also, I hear a new intensity in your playing that I hadn't noticed before. You may have had it all along of course but I noticed it for the first time in these recordings.

I agree. Very good. The inner voices, the avoidance of strict synchronicity of metre,  and the wide spectrum of dynamic importance of notes are imperative for this type of playing to have life. These two captivating samples leave me desirous of hearing longer improvisations from you.

Derek:
Thanks, I too hadn't noticed before, maybe it comes with age, experience or just the fact i was extremely eager to be improvising again. Thanks for listening

Ted:
Thank you, I have been experimenting with inner voices, they fasinate me, the direction and endless possibility with them, making music as full as it could be. I'll post a longer improvisation next time, I tend to always cut off at very early forgetting its improvisation and not a written piece.

Just listened to your first improvisation.

I can only tell you that the sophistication of the melody and the complexity of the harmony and voicing just makes it seem so improbably that it could have been an improvisation. I also hear shades of Chopin (as also inferable from your name) in some parts.

In other words, it is so wonderful. I wish I could improvise something anything near to your standards.

Any specific technique/methods you do to achieve such a beautiful effect?
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata

Thanks for your nice message. But yes this is completly improvised, i tend to start by improvising a short melody or a few bars i like, then keep coming back to it. I guess the only methods i use are practice, and trial and error, lately ive been really interested in inner voices, which i use an octave for the melody and just notes in the middle, but try and keep relaxed doing that, at first i was rushing them and tensing my fingers and oh what a nmess that was....And yes chopin is a great inspiration too me! Thanks for listening

This is great. I can honestly say that if there was sheet music for this at the music store, I would seriously consider buying it and perform for my grand parents.

your guys' improvs don't sound like improvs at all. They sound like pieces you've been playing for years. How do you guys get it so that there are no "mistakes"?

Like there are no "wrong" notes that sound out of harmony?

Thank you :) I think its just practice! trial and error, although if you listen to my other improvs, especially the earlier ones (index of improvisors) then there are many many harmonious mistakes. The more you explore and the more confident you become the less "wrong" notes will occur, however remember, there are no wrong notes in improvisation, often some of my favourite parts of my own improves are mistakes.
Thanks
