piano price
on: March 14, 2011, 02:44:58 PM
Hello there,
I'm thinking I would like to upgrade my piano to a Steinway "O" model. Does anyone know the current price (U.S.) of an "O" grand? Thanks.

For a new "O", isn't it around $60,000?

New, restored or used/reconditioned?
New is around 60K at the Steinway showroom in Manhattan depending on the wood used and the furniture design. Anything fancy and they go way up from there. Restored is 28K to 40K (again, depending on furniture. Restored by Steinway, high 40's to low 50's. (They should really get over themselves.) Used reconditioned varies. In playable condition, 10K-20K. Don't let the price sway you on the restored ones pianos. Those prices are regional and do not always reflect the quality of the restoration. I live near NYC and you will pay the higher end.
There is a very good restoration place up in the country, NY State, by comparison, that charges much less. Less rent, less local income, less asking price. Still a very good restoration.
And I do mean FULL restoration, refinishing, all new action parts, new soundboard, polished hardware.

Check out Faust Harrison too.
These are just some NY area examples.

Thank you, jimbo320. They have some beautiful restored "O" 's there. I had my heart set on a new one, but may change my mind. Thanks so much!

I love browsing Country pianos inventory. There is a good restorer up in New Rochelle too but the name has escaped my limited memory. If you get to Manhattan, just go to Steinway around 57th and 7th. You don't really need an appointment and you get to play with the D.
Also, take a walk down 58st. btw 6th and 8th. There are some good shops there.
