performance piece?
on: March 14, 2011, 11:40:32 PM
i'm getting ready for a performance and i'm stumped as to what piece to play. i will be the last of the performers and therefore i'd like to end being impressive, showy, dramatic, loud, etc. don't worry about the difficulty... i will work hard and learn it :) i consider myself very advanced (not to sound conceited, just so you know what kind of music i'd like). if you have any suggestions, PLEASE PLEASE let me know. it would be such a help. thanks so much.

Beethoven- op 106
Lszt/Busoni- Fantasy over mariage of figaro
Balakirev- Islamey
Chopin- All etudes op 10 and 25
...

There is really no way we can suggest anything when you say "I consider myself very advanced", and not giving any example of what you've played before...

pianisten1989, to answer your question, i've played pieces such as:

Un Sospiro by Liszt; Prelude in C# Minor and Prelude in G Minor by Rachmoninoff; Chopin's Revolutionary Etude; a few Beethoven sonatas, etc.

However, i'm still looking for something with more difficulty.

Thanks for all of the help so far, it's well appreciated  :)

The Liszt Dante Sonata is great fun to play; definitely loud, fast, and difficult, and loaded with energy, and rather unique. It's peak difficulty is not the most extreme, but 3/4 of the pages are quite demanding so it takes a long time to learn. Playing time is ~ 19 minutes.
