pianoworks infuence by Funk?
on: March 16, 2011, 02:05:59 PM
I have recently become very interested in funk and polyrhythms. I have been listening a lot to "The Great Curve" by Talking Heads and that kind of rhythms would  be very effective in classical music as well, in particular in a pianoconcerto but also chamber music.

ANyobody know any good examples of funk influenced piano concertos for instance?

Kapustin has some piano works, including some piano concertos, that have a little funk influence in them.

Heard Hamelin´s Kapustin recordings recently they are good but not funky enough I think but that might be Hamelin´s interpretation rather then the works themselves. ;)

Argerich can make even Bach sound funky or at least a bit like swing without losing the baroque spirit, it depends a lot on the performer.

Hey, Hamelin plays Kapustin better than most people out there. I wasn't talking so much about those works on that CD, though. I was talking more about the chamber music and the piano concertos. They're about as funky as you can get within the realm of classical music.
