Butterflies

This is poly rhythmic Sketch 4 in C Sharp m which I've also called 'Butterflies' (as someone in the audience that night described it as making them think of thousands of butterflies!). I am really keen to hear people's impressions of these poly rhythmic compositions/improvisations as I am quite excited about them as a new form. My inspiration for them is nature - infinite complexity meets infinite simplicity - the music is fractal and complex to delve into, but not difficult and abstract to appreciate - like a tree is so beautiful, but when you start to go deeply into its mechanisms it is infinitely complex. So much contemporary composition is very abstract and dense, and while that has its place, it's not what I feel music is all about. For me, music is about beauty!
By the way the line between composition and improv is totally blurry to me - I work on themes and think about form but I never score anything or keep it fixed in my mind, and each piece is different every time I play it so I think it still falls under 'improv'.

Hi eddie,
I'll have to let this and your other compositions sink in a little bit but I like what I hear very much, welcome to the pianostreet improvisations room! I also enjoy what you've written in general terms about music. Yes of course your music falls under improv if you change it every time. I think the only things that can't really be considered improv in here is playing a composition absolutely verbatim without any significant changes, or a performance that isn't live (i.e. played by a computer).

I feel like almost all I can say is that it was a really amazing experience to listen to this and thank you so much for posting!
