How long?  What sort of mood or character?  How much of a challenge are you seeking?

Chopin ... maybe etude e.g. op. 10 no. 3,
                                      op. 10 no. 12
                                      op. 25 no. 9

nocturne: op. 9 no. 1 or 2 and many diffrent pieces oh... I know many interesting Chopin's pieces.

perhaps you should try scherzo no. 1? what about polonaise?

Now playing:
Prokofiev - Sonate in d-minor op. 14
Bach/Busoni - Chaccone in d-minor
Bach - II Partita in c-minor
F. Chopin - Barcarole in F sharp major, Op. 60
                Ballade in f-minor

As Chopin wrote over 200 works for piano, I guess you could just suggest all of them.

no, because we search works respective for pianist who played e.g. rachmaninov's moment musical no.4, beetoven's pathetique   ... so we cannot suggest for example ballade no 4 or scherzo no 3, 4 let alone sonatas.
Now playing:
Prokofiev - Sonate in d-minor op. 14
Bach/Busoni - Chaccone in d-minor
Bach - II Partita in c-minor
F. Chopin - Barcarole in F sharp major, Op. 60
                Ballade in f-minor

I guess you could suggest every work by Chopin at the approximate skill level you guess the original poster to be.

Unfortunately, we have no real criteria for making meaningful recommendations—even as concerns skill level, given that there is a very big spectrum of technical difficulty between the first and third movements of "Moonlight."

so I think that we need the answer for very important question. sjeon! how many chopin's pieces do you play and which?

Number 6 sounds like a good one to start with. Number 11 also sounds good as first HR also I heard.

Anyway, how difficult is the Moment Musical no.4 by Rachmaninov?

Oh 900th post.. :D
Bach - Partita No.2
Scriabin - Etude 8/12
Debussy - L'isle Joyeuse
Liszt - Un Sospiro

Goal:
Prokofiev - Toccata

If you can play the 3rd mvt of the Moonlight, perhaps you're up to the challenge of Chopin's beautiful and impressive Polonaise in F-sharp Minor, Op. 44.

Good Luck!

Polonaise in F-sharp minor is really difficult piece, and it is good idea if you played several big works by Chopin and etudes.
waldesrauschen it will be good choice in my opinion :)

Oh, yes, you're probably right, emilye, about the F-sharp Minor Polonaise being terribly difficult (it's just one of my fav's).  So, maybe if sjeon still wants an impressive-sounding Chopin suggestion, the Military Polonaise would be a better choice - certainly more easily accomplished!

Hello. I love Chopin and Liszt, although I am more familiar with Chopin pieces, so I can recommend you a few.

Maybe try an etude? His etudes tend to be rather difficult, but I think you play well enough. Have a listen to Op. 10 No. 3 if you like slower pieces. Op. 25 No. 1 is a nice piece as well.

Chopin Nocturnes are very fun to listen to and play. I am sure you have herd Op. 9 No. 2. Try Op. 62 No. 2. The are not as difficult as the etudes.

As far as Liszt pieces go, the one I can name is Liebestraum. Sorry!

Good luck with your studies.

- Natalie

I think the Liebestraum and Un Sospiro (as overplayed as they may be), are excellent entry points into Liszt's music.  I'm working on the 1st Mephisto Waltz for my Jury, and I'm finding loads of techniques that come in a much more approachable version in the two pieces I suggested.  Both pieces have several cadenzas, and a large variety of technical difficulties (but aren't over the top!).  I wouldn't suggest the 6th Hungarian Rhapsody as a first Liszt piece, unless you can play RH octaves like a freaking machine!!   ;)
