on: March 21, 2011, 05:14:29 AM
I'm currently in the midst of finding new pieces to play.. but I can't really find much! Would anyone suggeat some works? To give a very general and broad idea of where I'm at I'm currently working on Rachmaninoff op.23 no.5 in g minor, chopin polonaise op.40 no.1, bach prelude ans fugue in c sharp minor book 1, and a few others! Thank you! :D

How about some Kurtág? I heard eight pieces op. 3 in a concert last year and they were great fun. Too difficult for me I fear, but I'd love to play them if I were good enough.

How about a Classical piece? Maybe a Beethoven sonata? The sonatas Op. 101 - 111 are generaly considered the most difficult. You can consider those, although they could be difficult. Take a look at Op. 2 No. 1, Op 31. No. 1, Op. 2 No. 3. These pieces might be of your liking, and if you want you could also look at the ABRSM Dimploma Syllabus under DipABRSM and LRSM repertoire.

Good luck with your studies.

If I could play the pieces you are already playing my problem would be deciding what NOT to play; there's so much great stuff at that level.

How about

Bach the D major Partita or the Eb major P&F from Book I
Haydn, any of the London Sonatas
Schubert, the late C minor or Bb major sonatas
Janacek, On an Overgrown Path

But that's almost random, since we have only the vaguest indication of the sort of things you like, or what turns you off about the things you don't like.

OMG!! op. 111?? yeah I agree :) It is the most difficult piano sonata by Beethoven... oh, oh it is not much good proposition, unless maybe kentar played several sonatas. Otherwise it will be unthoughful idea.

How about Beethoven's sonata?
My propositions: op. 2/2, op.2/3, op. 31/1, op.31/3, op. 90 - e-minor ... and I can say that these piano sonatas are quite difficult but... difficult!!

.... and reaaaaally beautiful :)
Now playing:
Prokofiev - Sonate in d-minor op. 14
Bach/Busoni - Chaccone in d-minor
Bach - II Partita in c-minor
