The perfect concert
on: March 23, 2011, 10:31:30 AM
I think I did this couple of years ago, without any major success, But this will be different..! *jumping up and down like a 12 year old, asking for his yet another pet (rip all the other pets)*
Anyway, this would be some kind of forum game. Lets say there is a concert (about 2 hours) that can contain any piece, as long as it doesn't extend the limit.
We put one or two pieces each reply, with a little explanation why you picked that, and how long time it normally takes to play it.
So, I start:
The opening piece is easily Wanderer Fantasy, by Schubert. It takes like 20 minutes, and is so much the perfect opening!

Are you sure the wanderer doesn't last more than 20 minutes? I don't know. I would have put this as the second piece on the first half. (I remember I heard Pollini play Shonberg followed by the Wanderer - it was interesting) Anyway, do I have to accept this as the first piece?
Well, in that case, I might do something audacious and jump to the 20th century. It would have to be something that sort of "tops" the wanderer in some ways. Or complement it in some way. I'm thinking out loud...But maybe a series of short pieces, because after the Wanderer, well...OH, I know. The Rachmaninov moments musicaux! They probably last about 20 --25 minutes. And the finish quite brilliantly in C major. Yes. That would be my choice. excellent, if I do say so myself.

Well, the point is that you have to accept my piece.. But now when you say it, it do fit better after the break... Oh well, done is done
So:
Schubert: Wanderer Fantasy, 20min (I looked it up, most people play it somewhere around 20)
Rachmaninov: Moments musicaux, 25min

So far, I think it's great. I can just see it on a Carnegie Hall programme.

... and what about sonatas? maybe Sonate in C-mayor op. 53 by Beethoven - about 25 min.
