Albeniz, Iberia, Triana - note query
on: March 28, 2011, 11:12:46 PM
I'm trying to get to grips with this wonderful but difficult - and probably much too hard for me really - piece, and am mindful that it is said that there are a lot of misprints in Iberia.
I have a very old Spanish copy, apparently the same as the Dover reprint. On page 7, 3rd line, first bar (top of page 6 is tranquillement in F maj where tune starts on middle C sf et ppp, for 8 bars ending allargando and rit, then last bar of page 6 is ppp a Tempo in Db maj where the tune is on high Ab ... so, 6th bar of that section, 2 bars before the LH has a 3+4 in 6 to the crotchet) the RH as I read it has Gb quaver, (semiquaver rest) Ab, Fnat Gnat D E (GCnat) Fnat G Gb (CDb) Bbb (GBbb) E C#. The tune is Gb Ab Fnat G? in the RH then the LH has G#Anat leading to RH Bnat at start of next bar. The Gnat in the RH tune feels doubtful and I would happily put in Gb and Eb and Cb in the RH but perhaps the printed bar is correct and it's just modulating sharpwards? Can anyone enlighten me please and confirm whether the printed score is completely accurate? It's fabulous writing anyway, if a bit of a struggle (to put it mildly, let alone some of the other pages). And if there are any other well-known misprints in Triana I'd be glad to be told of them before learning too many wrong notes!
