Identifying a Liszt piece
on: March 29, 2011, 12:45:29 PM
Greetings!

I've searched the net for information about track No. 4 in of the following CD:
https://www.hyperion-records.co.uk/al.asp?al=CDA67455

titled - "—Dernière illusion (?), in D flat major "

As far as I can tell, it's not "Préludes et Harmonies poétiques et religieuses No.4"
but something else.. Alas I could not find any information/sheet music of this beautiful piece. Can anyone here shed some light about the subject?

Thanks in advance!

Yair

The liner notes on the Hyperion page in your link (under "Introduction") explain that the pieces on this CD of "New Discoveries" are from a sketchbook.  My guess is that they still exist only in manuscript form, and conventional sheet music is unavailable.
What passes you ain't for you.

Thanks for the quick reply Steve.
I was hoping one of you would know about a proper sheet music.

It appears it is in this EMB volume which is still in print.

Thanks for the reply Thal,

I don't think it's the same piece but I'll check it out.
As the introduction on the Hyperion page says,
the "Dernière illusion (?), in D flat major" has a common theme to the one on the "First Ballade".
I still like the "Dernière illusion" more..it was playing in my head all night(:
I guess Steve was right and it's only available in manuscript form..

Bests,

Yair

I think it is worth checking. I was comparing the index of the sheet music to the one on the disk, but it was late at night and I had rather overdone the beer.
