Dinu Lipatti. He gets it. The piece has a solid flow whereas others treat the piece as a series of etudes.
There is one spot where Lipatti seems to have a collision then recovers. I have thought this was intentional as Chopin often does this, big or little.
I have listened to dozens of recordings and think only Zimmerman sees the flow, but finds distractions so does not see it all the way through.
My feel is that this is a short trip on water and the swells and local currents drive the tempo and mix and resume and finally get out on a grand flow, quickly arriving, being drawn to the dock and finishing.
Please answer if you can see this in the Lipatti. Can you hear this anywhere else? After having this piece tease me for sixty years, I have not had a decent answer.
