xx Chopin's Barcarolle - Favorite recordings?
March 30, 2011, 01:28:21 AM by kelly_kelly

As yet, the best I've heard is Lipatti (if I recall correctly he didn't record "officially" but there's a version on YouTube), but I would like a few suggestions so I can get a "balanced" perspective on the piece. Any favorites?

xx Chopin Barcarolle edition
January 06, 2010, 12:08:45 PM by sashaco

Hi.  I printed a copy of the Chopin Barcarolle off the internet.  Although different in set-up from the version on this site, it has identical print, and the same markings.  Are the dynamics and pedallings  Chopin's?  If not, can I find a more original edition?  Unfortunately I live in Malawi, and I can't trot down to a music library for a look.

Thanks, Sasha Cooke

I was wondering. I have played Liebestraum wich is a 8+ piece and Chopin Etude op 10 no 3 wich is a 8 piece, i was wondering because i really like the chopin barcarolle, its rated at 8 difficaulty, i was wondering if it isnt hard? I mean do you think i could play it or..?

xx Chopin's #$@! Barcarolle
February 14, 2009, 05:43:40 PM by general disarray

In bar 23.  Those #@$%# double trills.  (They reoccur, of course, but this one bar is illustrative of the problem.)  Editorial suggestion (maybe Chopin's, for all I know) is 5/1 alternating with 4/2.  Next #$@# trill chain is 5/1 alternating with 3/2.

I have technical issues with this. Does anyone have any other suggestions that work for them?  I don't care how weird, or even if they border on a fake, let me know.  I do NOT want to go to my grave being just another pianist who had to abandon the Barcarolle because of these trills.  I love this piece too much.

xx Chopin: scherzo or barcarole?
October 31, 2008, 12:42:34 PM by icilkovich

between one of Chopin scherzo (especially no. 4) or Chopin barcarole, which one do you think is more interesting? which one is easier to cope with or which one is more challenging?

xx Chopin Barcarolle for Competition?
March 25, 2006, 06:55:37 PM by lani

My daughter is 13 and is beginning the Chopin Barcarolle, one of her favorite pieces.  She wants to play it possibly for a local music competition next year, and her teacher thought it a good contrast to the classical required piece (most likely a Beethoven or Mozart selection), but highly recommended the Mendelsohnn Rondo Cappriccio instead.  My daughter likes the Barcarolle more and wants to keep this for her repertoire.  What do people think about this as a competition piece?  Is it considered a virtuoso piece?  Also my daughter likes to play pieces that are unusual and less known.  Thank you.

"I was in Poland the past summer to give 2 concerts. At the last minute they requested some Chopin, which I had not brought with me. So, I google-searched for classical downloads and found your site. I was able to print out excellent editions of the pieces I needed within minutes. To find the scores locally would have been inpossible as it was a smaller town, the nearest music store 45 minutes away."

"Piano Street has been a wonderful tool to me as both a pianist and a piano teacher. I can browse the collection for pieces I want to play and/or have my students play. The difficulty rating system that Piano Street uses enables me to search by difficulty level for pieces at my students' various playing levels. It is helpful that many of the scores include an audio clip of the piece being played. I have recommended to my advanced students that they also join Piano Street since getting sheet music from there is a much less expensive alternative to ordering and paying for the music.
