Busoni Concerto Op. 39?
on: April 08, 2011, 04:07:29 AM
Not that I would ever be able to play this, but I wanted to read it at the piano and the score at IMSLP is in full score.

Anyone so kind to post the reduction for two pianos?

Thanks.

It is still in print old chap and the edition i have bears the same number as the one currently sold by Brietkopf, so I do not think it would be a good idea to post.

The two-piano reduction was first published in 1909.  It is in the public domain in USA and a bunch of other places.

That said, I would not dream of asking you to post something you think is not OK.

Thanks in advance!

Though already public domain in the U.S., the copyright issue concerning the two-piano reduction of Busoni's Piano Concerto appears to turn on the fact that the arranger, Egon Petri, died in 1962.  The work will enter the public domain in Canada (where IMSLP's servers are located) in 2012, so I expect it to be uploaded there next year.

Length of copyright in EU countries appears to be even more restrictive (i.e., life plus 75 years compared to Canada's life plus 50 years), so I conclude it would be impermissible to upload the score here.
What passes you ain't for you.

It's life + 70 years, actually, in Europe and quite a few other countries (not that this fact makes much difference in this case, of course).

Thanks for catching my error, Alistair.

The source I had consulted (the Contributor Portal at IMSLP) was correct, of course, and I can't even claim that I made a typo; for some reason (probably age-related :) ), I rounded the number up in my own mind from 70 to 75.

I'd personally be inclined to ascribe it to mild optimism, actually...
