RCM substitutions, the Lark?
on: April 12, 2011, 06:47:56 AM
I've looked in the RCM syllabus for Glinka-Balakirev "the Lark" and not finding any traces of it there, was wondering if anyone knew for what grade level it would be appropriate to choose as a (list D?) substitution. I'm just starting to pick out pieces for ARCT, and I'm not quite sure if it would be difficult enough. To me it seems like it could be either an easy(ish) ARCT piece or perhaps a more difficult gr. 10 piece. Any ideas?

Well I have a friend who played it for their ARCT... but I'm not sure if the syllabus has changed or anything.

Hi pianorama, I have looked in some old RCM syllabi that I still have.  This piece was in both the 1978-1981 syllabus as well as the 1986 syllabus, and was classified as an ARCT level piece, List C [not list D] in both.  The piece does not appear in the 2001 and 2008 syllabi at all.  I checked to see if had been downgraded to a grade 10 piece, and I did not see it there.  Of course, be sure to get all substitutions approved by RCM Examinations.   :)

Thanks... How strange though, that they would have removed it!
