newbie needing help with fingering
on: April 13, 2011, 07:28:44 AM
Hi I bought a wk-210 about 5 weeks ago.I am a complete newbie to keyboards.
I have read right hand for classical music fingering is to put the 1st - thumb on the C key with the next 4 on the keys from D to G with the remaining 4 fingers. This was a beginners book. What is the fingering for the remaing keys if I plan to play at least another octave higher.I read a fingering pattern that people use to play scales. eg 123 1234 123 12345 Can this be used for my problem in playing classical music as up to this point I have not found the answer.I try to put as much time as I can into learning the keyboard but have come to a standstill. If a website or a book that would show me the steps could be mentioned, it will help me a lot. Thankyou.

If you look at classical pianists on youtube, you will see their hands move a lot. Usually an advanced piece may have the odd number on it for the less obvious fingerings, the idea being that you reposition your hand so that fingering hits that note.
My son's teacher had already tried to break the tendency to anchor around middle C with thumb from the start (well certainly before the 4th lesson). At this point, the teacher is putting a lot of emphasis on sitting properly, good posture, elbows, wrists and finger shape, as well as timing, and moving the hand/fingering to a new position.
There might be something on youtube that is more of use rather than a book.

Thankyou john90 for replying. I read around and Alfred's Basic Adult was mentioned.
I have got hold of this and am now back to practising again - Thankyou once again
