McPhail Baby Grand- any advice towards purchase?
on: April 18, 2011, 06:30:37 PM
I'm an amateur piano player that currently owns a Baldwin console piano from the 1980's. I've been given the opportunity to purchase a McPhail Baby Grand for a song (pun intended???). It is beautiful, with a lighter finish, and some ornate scrollwork on legs. Appears to be in good condition, with only a couple chips in the surface veneer. Includes a humidifier/dehumidifier system. I have no idea what year it is from. I briefly searched for identification markings but didn't see any.
Any idea on the value or where I can find identification on the grand? Any advice?
Thanks in advance.

With any piano, previous to purchase, have the instrument appraised for present mechanical condition and then for local market value by your favourite piano technician.
A technician that does restorative work on pianos is always a good one to use.

If you think it's is expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.
