Help with my daughter' first steps with her re-starting mother as a teacher
on: April 18, 2011, 07:16:42 PM
Hi everybody!
I posted a similar message in the audition room board, but maybe this is it’s proper destination.
First of all, I’d like to thank all the members of this wonderful community. You have been such a precious help for me, a middle aged re-starter, and for Costanza, my 11 years old daughter. She started her piano lessons about two years ago. After two unlucky experiences with private teachers, I decided to be myself her teacher (with your fundamental support). Of course, she does’nt have any ambition to became a pro. But I hope that music will be a source of joy and enrichment of her inner life for the future.
Here are the last three pieces she’s been learning. These videos (if you have the patience to watch them), could maybe highlight the mistakes we (as an amateur teacher and an amateur player) are doing,.
Thanks in advance for any criticism, suggestion, advice you’ll be so kind to give me in response.
Best regards (and sorry for my bad English)
Margherita

It looks like your doing a wonderful job of teaching her! I thought she performed them beautifully, and though I'm sure they could be improved I don't think you have to worry about it! She's very good for her age, and considering she hasn't been playing that long ( I'm 15 now and I've played for 10 years an I'm still only just grade 8!) Good luck in continuing to teach her, I hope she continues to enjoy it - please do post more videos too, i think it's such a great opportunity to be able to hear other pianists and learn from them! All the best...

Thank you sooo much for your kind words of encouragement! Your reply really encourage us to go on, in spite of the difficults and the doubts that sometimes arise.
The next pieces she is going to learn are: Bach, Allemande from C minor Partita (she has already learned three two part inventions, and likes very much thi composer); Chopin, valse op 69 n 2, and Debussy, Arabesque 1.
I'll try to post them if and when they'll be ready.
Good luck with your piano playing. I'm sure you are good!!
Best wishes, and thanks again!!!

Thank you!!
You know, what really makes wonders is the "Bernhard's approach" I'm trying to apply (in my limited way). His posts scattered in this forum are a true treasure for every aspiring teacher/pianist.
The 'daily practice' principle it requires has been so far the hardest part: convincing my daughter to sacrifice part of her very limited free time to the piano was not at all easy.
But now she is going to enjoy her piano lessons.
I hope to find soon for her a 'real' teacher -- a Bernhard-like one would be my dream...
Good luck with your piano playing, don't give up!
Best wishes, and thanks again for your kind reply
